Three Cheers to Peter Rabinov!

Rabinov, an attorney based in Los Angeles,  has written a good summary on managing contract (review) attorneys. The article came out earlier today on Law Technology News.

Here’s a sample:

Treat contract professionals with respect: Don’t treat your contract lawyers like second-class citizens; if you do, you will pay a steep price. If you’ve hired well, these lawyers are key members of your team whose work can and will influence the outcome of the case. Recognize the value of their conscientious work and flexible hours. Be upfront and respectful about deadlines and expectations, including expected overtime and weekend work. Keep your contract attorneys up-to-date on the procedural status of the case: an informed contract attorney reflects well on your department.

Well said.

As someone who worked for two years as a contract attorney I applaud Mr. Rabinov’s comments. Too often the project managers have treated contract attorneys with disrespect.
